Being right and being popular are seldom the same thing.  Follow this three-part worship series through the unpopular prayers of John Wesley.

Humility

These are not the traits that get you ahead in this world.  Material wealth, fame, and status does not follow the meek, the humble, or those that deny themselves.  We are told every day by our culture to indulge, to purchase, to consume, and to take care of number one.  Jesus denies this worldly wisdom.

To follow Christ, one must first be humble, deny self, and be resign themselves to the will of God.

Hearts Afire

How can the Holy Spirit shape us? What is the relationship between the Church and the Holy Spirit?

We will look at the book of Acts and see how the power of the Holy Spirit can transform the world. In the process, we will look at the Four Areas of Ministry Focus that was put forth by the United Methodist Church in 2008.

The Four Areas of Ministry Focus:

1. Combating the diseases of poverty by improving health globally.
2. Engaging in ministry with the poor.
3. Creating new places for new people and revitalizing existing congregations.
4. Developing principled Christian leaders for the church and the world

24 Hours

During one 24-hour period, Jesus of Nazareth changed the course of human history. No other event has inspired more writing, art, drama, joy, anger, or violence. Too often in churches we rush through the last 24 hours in the second half of a Palm Sunday worship. This year, CUMC will take a closer look at Jesus's last day on earth.

Christmas Eve

Join us on Christmas Eve at 5 p.m. for an evening of candles and carols. Hear the Christmas story read, join in the singing of the traditional songs of Christmas, see the light of Christ spread across the sanctuary as we sing "Silent Night."

It is the most beautiful evening of the year. It is the night of Jesus' birth. Come celebrate in his house.

What do you want for Christmas?

Over the four weeks of Advent, we will be looking at this very popular question. What do you want for Christmas? What is on your list?

These are the true gifts of Christmas. These are the gifts that can change hearts, lives, and even transform the world. Jesus was not born so that we could give presents to each other and put up decorations. Jesus was born for one reason - to establish the Kingdom of God. These are the gifts of the Kingdom.

Fruitful

The first command that God gave to human beings was to "be fruitful." Jesus cursed the fig tree that bore no fruit, and told his disciples that people would know them by their fruit. In the beautiful imagery of Revelation, the sign that all things are well and that the Kingdom of God is fulfilled is the tree of life that bears fruit each month of the year.

The theme of being fruitful - whether it is a command of God, or a trait of faithfulness - permeates the Bible. for the next six weeks, we will look at how we can be more fruitful as a congregation, but also as disciples of Jesus Christ.
